The Trieste Depth is a deep sea in the western part of the Pacific Ocean and with a depth of 10,916 m it is the third deepest point of the Mariana Trench .

Geographical location

The Trieste Depression is located in the western Pacific east of the Mariana Islands in the center of the Mariana Trench. It is about 14 ° north latitude and 147 ° east longitude .

Surname

The Trieste deep was named after the Bathyscaph Trieste developed by Auguste Piccard and controlled by Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh , which penetrated into this deep sea on January 23, 1960.

Jacques Piccard reported that shortly before hitting the seabed, even at this extreme depth, he saw a fish.
