Trifolium burchellianum is a plant from the genus clover ( Trifolium ). It is in the genus in the section Lotoidea found there it belongs to the sub-section Lotoidea , serial Lotoidea . The species is named in honor of William John Burchell .

Trifolium burchellianum is a perennial , herbaceous plant . The stem axis is prostrate. She is bald and has stolons .
The leaves have long stalks. The leaves are three-pinned, the individual pinna between 0.8 and 5 inches long and 0.5 to 1.5 inches wide. The blades are inversely egg-shaped, heart-shaped, elongated or elliptical and narrowing towards the base. The leaf margin is finely indented. The tip is rounded or notched. The stipules are up to 20 millimeters long and triangular, steadily tapering. The free part is about as long as the overgrown part.
The inflorescences measure up to 3 centimeters. They sit on up to 15 centimeters long inflorescence axes, which are hairy near the head. They are spherical and consist of many individual flowers that are in vortices. The flowers are purple and sit on peduncles about 2.5 millimeters long. You stand upright or point down.
The calyx is about 6 millimeters long and almost hairless. In the lower part it is tubular and ten-nerved. The calyx teeth are about twice as long as the calyx tube and curved sickle-shaped. The crown is 0.8 to 1.3 inches long. The flag is broadly inverted ovoid with a rounded tip. It is slightly longer than the shuttle and the wings.
The legumes are about 5 millimeters long. They are 1- to 2-seeded, egg-shaped and paper-like. The seeds measure between 1.1 and 1.5 millimeters. They are dull and mottled with brown.
The chromosome number was determined for the subspecies Trifolium burchellianum ssp. johnstonii with 2n = 96 determined.

Trifolium burchellianum is within the genus in the section Lotoidea found there it belongs to the sub-section Lotoidea , serial Lotoidea . The species is named in honor of William John Burchell . Two subspecies have been described:

- Trifolium burchellianum subsp. johnstonii (oliv.) Cufod. ex JBGillett
distribution
The distribution area of Trifolium burchellianum ssp. burchellianum is located in southern Africa, it includes Angola, the Cape Province and the former Natal Province in South Africa and Lesotho.
Trifolium burchellianum ssp. johnstonii is native to Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and southern Ethiopia further north.
The species grows in damp and boggy places in forest edges, and bamboo thickets at altitudes between 1,800 and 4,000 meters.
