The Trimble Glacier is located in the Tordrillo Mountains in Alaska ( USA ). The glacier was named in 1961 after Kelley W. Trimble (1885–1955), a topographer of the US Geological Survey (USGS) .
The Trimble Glacier has a north and a south source glacier. Below the junction, the 1.5 km wide glacier flows another 4.2 km in a northeasterly direction before it ends at an altitude of about 400 m . The Trimble Glacier feeds the Trimble River, which flows down the valley into the Hayes River , a right tributary of the Skwentna River . The glacier tongue of the Trimble Glacier is retreating more and more, so that the Trimble Glacier, the section of glacier below the junction of the two source glaciers, will no longer exist in the near future.
The northern source glacier (North Branch Trimble Glacier) has its nutrient area northeast of Mount Gerdine at an altitude of about 2900 m . The nutrient area borders on that of the eastern source glacier of the Hayes Glacier . The northern source glacier initially flows north and splits into two glacier arms, which unite again down the valley. In the lower area it flows in an east-northeast direction and has a width of 2 kilometers.
The southern source glacier (South Branch Trimble Glacier) has its origin on the eastern flank of Mount Gerdine at an altitude of 2600 m . The 24 km long and on average 1.8 km wide glacier flows in a predominantly north-northeast direction through the mountains.
