The Trinnensee is located in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania near Ankershagen east of the Müritz in the area of the Müritz National Park . The lake is part of the historic Havel headwaters . In addition to stratified and rainwater, the lake receives water supply from the historic Havelquellsee Bornsee via a surface connection . The Trinnensee drains into the Mühlensee via a swampy environment . Not far from the south bank of the Mühlensee is today's artificial symbolic source of the Havel . The west bank rises steeply towards the Ulrichshof settlement.
The Bornsee, the Trinnensee and the Mühlensee have been draining since the 14th or 15th centuries via a puncture on the east side of the Mühlensee past Ankershagen into the Tollense and Peene into the Baltic Sea .
