The Greifensteine nature theater is a rock stage in the middle of the Greifenstein area in the Ore Mountains . It is located in the forest area between the villages of Geyer and Ehrenfriedersdorf in the area of the city of Ehrenfriedersdorf and has been used regularly as a location for cultural events since 1952.

history

The first attempts to play theater here were made in 1846 with the history of Greifenstein Castle and the Stülpner legend . In the following years there were only irregular performances. It was not until 1931 that the Annaberg City Theater gave ten performances to a total of 6,500 visitors from August to September. It turned out that the setting is suitable for a natural theater.

In 1932 there was for the first time a continuous season from Pentecost to mid-July. In 1933 the seats in the natural theater were expanded and improved. In 1934 the Greifensteine were recognized as a landscape stage and Ehrenfriedersdorf became a member of the Reichsbund der Deutschen Freilicht- und Volksschauspiele .

In 1935, the play community for national festival design in cooperation with the Oybin Forest Theater began . The distinctive log house on the right side of the theater was built in the same year.

post war period

Since 1952, the natural theater has been performed by the district theater, today's Eduard-von-Winterstein-Theater Annaberg-Buchholz . Many pieces have been performed so far, of which the Stülpner story alone has been published in eight different versions since 1931.
