The Yellow Spitzkopf blenny ( Tripterygion Delaisi ) is a kind of three-finned blennies , which is found in the northeastern Atlantic.

features

The yellow pointed headed slimy fish has a slim, elongated and laterally flattened body. It reaches a body length of up to 9 centimeters. The pointed head is equipped with a terminal mouth and comb scales , the large eyes are high on the sides of the head. Normally the fish are colored gray-brown and therefore show a drawing of five dark and faded crossbars. The last bar often forms a black saddle point on the tail stalk. The back line is also drawn by several white dots. Adult males are conspicuously yellow-brown with a dark head and elongated rays in the area of the second dorsal fin during the mating and territorial season.

The dorsal fin is in three parts and extends from the base of the head to just before the transition to the one-part caudal fin . The first dorsal fin consists of 3 and the second of 16 to 18 hard rays, the third of 11 to 14 limb or soft rays. The thread-like pelvic fins are throaty, so they lie in front of the pectoral fins .

distribution

The yellow pointed headed blimp is found in the coastal areas of the north-east Atlantic from southern Great Britain to Senegal , around the Canary Islands and in the Mediterranean.

Way of life

The fish live in the surf area on rocky coasts at depths of three to 40 meters, mostly between 6 and 12 meters. They are preferably found in cooler water and in shady areas. They feed on small, ground-living and planktonic crustaceans.

The females spawn from May to July. At this time, the territorial males woo the females, who lay the eggs on different substrates within the territories. The males guard the clutches of several females until the young fish hatch (active brood care ).
