The slime fish- like (Blenniiformes) are marine fish from the group of perch relatives (Percomorphaceae) that live near the coast .

features

Mucilaginous fish are mostly small, slender fish with their bodies compressed to the side, which are not or only incompletely scaled. Your skin has a high density of mucus- producing cells. Most species have only an incomplete lateral line organ . The pelvic fins are thread-like and sit very far forward, sometimes they are missing. The dorsal fin is long, the hard and soft rayed part have grown together.

Way of life

Almost all species of mucus fish live in the sea, mostly near the coast in shallow water on rocky or coral reefs . They eat all kinds of small invertebrates. Some species are food specialists and eat coral polyps or algae. Many species are very territorial.
