Tristan Berger (* 1959 ) is a German dramaturge , theater pedagogue , author and translator who specializes in children's and youth theater . He also works as a freelance journalist for theater magazines.

Life

From 1986 onwards, Berger worked for three years at the Munich SchauBurg and in the 1992/93 season at the Württemberg State Theater in Esslingen . From 1998–1999 he was the production dramaturge at the Munich Volkstheater under Ruth Drexel's artistic director, and from 2003 to 2006 he was the head dramaturge at the Ettlingen Castle Festival .

From 1993 to 1997 he was artistic director at the Thalia Theater in Halle / Saale and at that time was one of the youngest artistic directors in Germany. From 1990 onwards, Berger headed the artistic operations office of the Munich Philharmonic for one year .

After training as a qualified social worker, he is now mainly active as an acting teacher and freelance director and author. Berger teaches at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Johannes Kepler University Linz , as well as the Bavarian Theater Academy and the Federal Academy for Cultural Education in Wolfenbüttel . He is also a member of the pool of lecturers of the Association of German Amateur Theaters .

Berger directed several radio plays recorded by Jörg Hube .

As an author he regularly publishes articles in various magazines and also wrote his own plays. Berger's best-known work is Stoffel Flies über Meer, based on the novel of the same name by Erika Mann . Berger also translates theater plays from English, especially for TheaterStück-Verlag and Rowohlt Theater Verlag .

Tristan Berger is a member of the board of trustees of the Munich youth art schools and was a member of the jury for the Munich Youth Dramatist Prize from 1989 to 2006. In 2001 he was also a member of the selection committee at the German Children's and Youth Theater Meeting in Berlin.

Berger last staged "Der Curt-Mezger-Platz tells" in the Milbertshofen cultural center in October 2010. Since 2007, Berger and his partner Pia Weidner-Bohnenberger have been organizing programs with well-known artists and cabaret artists in the Milbertshofen cultural center under the name "Pieces & Works".
