As early as 1931, she designed Urbino , a service that met the Bauhaus' demands for a material-appropriate form and clear reduction to the essentials ( New Objectivity ). It was awarded a gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1936 and the Grand Prix at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition . The design is based on the basic shapes of circles and spheres and is influenced by the elegant East Asian art of vessels. It thus met the requirements of serial production and versatile use. KPM still produces the service today.

Together with the sculptor Siegmund Schütz (1906–1998) she created the Arkadia series , in which Petri designed the shape and Schütz the medallions in bisque porcelain. After the Second World War, this shape was also made without medallions under the name Urania .

After marrying John Raben, Trude Petri moved to Chicago, but remained connected to KPM as a designer. In 2006, on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Trude Petri and Siegmund Schütz, an anniversary exhibition was held at the Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts .
