Gertrude "Trude" Raubitschek , in Australia also Gertrude "Trude" Roberts (born April 16, 1903 or April 16, 1904 in Austria-Hungary , † August 18, 1987 in Australia ) was an Austro-Australian athlete .

Life

Trude Raubitschek belonged to the SC Hakoah Vienna , which she represented in various sports. In addition to winter sports such as ice skating and skiing , she also practiced other sports such as tennis , swimming , hockey and mountain sports . In field hockey she started for Austria in several international matches. At the Winter Maccabiade held between February 18 and 22, 1936 in Banská Bystrica , she took first or second place in several disciplines of skiing. In the course of her career she received numerous sports awards, particularly in skiing, and was the holder of the Bronze Sports Badge .

After Austria's annexation in 1938, she emigrated with her family, which included the artisan , textile artist and musician Fritzi Raubitschek (1901–1997) and her daughter Renate Yates , first to England in 1938 and from there in 1939 with the MV Aorangi went to Australia with her husband and daughter , where she lived with the family name Roberts until her death . In Australia, too, she was still active as an athlete, especially in her parade sport, skiing. She survived her husband Richard (1900–1981) by around six years and died on August 18, 1987 in the country where she had lived for around 50 years. She left their daughter Lottie and granddaughter Jane. The couple Trude and Richard Raubitschek were buried at the Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens and Crematorium .
