Tsunku

Mitsuo Terada ( Japanese 寺 田 光 男 , Terada Mitsuo ; born October 29, 1968 in Higashiōsaka , Osaka Prefecture , Japan ), better known under the name Tsunku ( Japanese つ ん く , often written as つ ん く ♂ ), is a Japanese singer , songwriter and Producer . He became famous as the lead singer of the band Sharam Q . From the late 1990s he became known as the producer of Morning Musumes and Hello! Projects . In 2014 he resigned as a producer after he was diagnosed with throat cancer.

Musical work

Tsunku began his career in 1992 as a singer with the band Sharam Q. When the band was looking for a female lead singer in 1997, a competition was held. The winner Michiyo Heike ultimately became the first soloist of the Hello! Projects , while five of the remaining ten finalists founded the Morning Musume group.

Im Hello! Project was an undisputed role of Tsunku until 2014. With a few exceptions, he wrote all songs for the groups Morning Musume , Berryz Kobo , ° C-ute , S / mileage and Juice = Juice , as well as for soloists such as Aya Matsuura and Maki Gotō and former groups such as vu-den , Minimoni , as well the early songs of Melon Kinenbi . Many different styles of music were chosen: from serious to melancholy pop music and songs influenced by R&B in the early years to happy idol pop to child-friendly songs for mini monies and, more recently, electropop , with rock pop and disco elements in between.

He names the Beatles , Queen and Onyanko Club as musical role models .

His work doesn't end with Sharam Q and the Hello! Project. For example, he wrote Ayumi Hamasaki's first # 1 single and worked with Nintendo on the game Rhythm Tengoku and its successor, Rhythm Heaven . He also founded his own record company, TNX, in 2006 and the NICE GIRL Project in 2007 ! as a sister organization of Hello! Projects.

He dedicated the song Love is here ~ Kibou no Hikari ~ to the victims of the Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 . Tsunku is one of the many Japanese celebrities who publicly support the earthquake victims.

In the anime Gin Tama there is the character Tsunpo , which is based on Tsunku.

Private life

Since June 2006 Tsunku has been married to the former model Kanako Idemitsu ( 出 光 加奈 子 ; Idemitsu Kanako ). On April 30th, she gave birth to twins, a girl and a boy. Another daughter followed in March 2011.

Tsunku had to interrupt his career as a singer because he had persistent pain in the throat; in the meantime, however, he was able to record and publish some singles. However, on March 6, 2014, he wrote in a blog post that he was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx and vocal folds . The disease was in its early stages and he was under treatment. After an early all-clear and the news that cancer had been defeated, it broke out again in late 2014. When Tsunku showed up for the opening ceremony of his old university, Kinki University , in early April , he announced through a text projector that his vocal cords had been removed.

He is friends with AKB48's producer Yasushi Akimoto .
