The TuS Varel (officially: Turn- und Sportverein Schwarz-Weiß Varel 09 eV ) is a sports club from Varel in the district of Friesland . The first soccer team played for three years in the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony . As Blau-Weiß Varel you played for two years in the first-class Gauliga Weser-Ems .

history

The association was founded in 1909 as Victoria Varel , which was dissolved in 1915. In 1919 a successor club was founded with VfB Varel , which was joined in 1933 by members of the banned workers' sports club Freie Turnerschaft Varel . In 1938, VfB had to merge with SC Varel to form SV Blau-Weiß Varel . After the end of the war, this association was dissolved and today's association was founded.

Reinforced by numerous marines stationed in Varel , Blau-Weiß Varel made the leap into the Gauliga Weser / Ems in 1943. There they became runner-up behind Wilhelmshaven 05 in the 1943/44 season . In 1949 TuS Varel was one of the founding members of the Amateur League 1 , was instant champion and was promoted to the Lower Saxony- West amateur league . The league in the 1950/51 season succeeded after a 4-1 win in the playoff against TuS Seelze .

A year later TuS Varel finished fifth and beat champions VfB Oldenburg 3-0 during the season . After internal squabbles, the club lost numerous top performers and had to relegate in 1952 after a 1: 3 defeat in the decider against Roland Delmenhorst . After two runner-up championships in 1959 and 1960, the Varelers were champions of Amateur League 1 in 1961 , but failed in the promotion round at SV Meppen and the TuS Heidkrug .

In 1964 the TuS missed the qualification for the newly created association league as the bottom of the table and disappeared at the district level. In 2011, TuS Varel became champion of the district league Friesland / Wilhelmshaven / Wesermarsch and made it to the district league. The league failed, however, and the TuS was passed through to the 1st district class Friesland / Wilhelmshaven in 2013 .
