Tumuaialii "Tumua" Anae (born October 16, 1988 in Honolulu ) is an American water polo player who is active for the SoCal water polo club . She won the gold medal with the national team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . Anae holds the position of goalkeeper and is the second goalkeeper in the national team after Betsey Armstrong .

Athletic career

Initially active as a swimmer with her sister Jordan, she was asked by friends to help out in a water polo game, after which they both devoted themselves to water polo. Anae already played organized water polo at Corona del Mar High School and was voted the second best player in her division. From 2007 Anae attended the University of Southern California , where she was also active in water polo; sometimes together with her sister. Here she performed very well, which is why she was nominated for various national teams , especially the All-American water polo team .

In 2010, Anae played her final season for the university. With a total of 714 held balls and 270 held balls in one season as well as 20 held balls in one game, it broke the university's previous records. Also that year Anae was appointed for the first time for the US national water polo team. There she has since established herself as a substitute goalkeeper behind Betsey Armstrong and won gold medals in the Water Polo World League in 2011 and 2012, at the Pan American Games in 2011 and the Summer Olympics in 2012.

Private life

Anae now lives in Newport Beach . She studied journalism at the university there .
