The BeNe League ( BeNe : Short form of Be lgien and Netherlands ( Ne derland ), abbr .: BNL ) was the top league of the women's team of Belgian and Dutch football clubs .
history
When it was founded in the 2012/13 season, it formed the first cross-border league of two national sports associations in Europe with eight clubs each from both countries: the Royal Belgian Football Association and the Royal Dutch Football Association . Previous major leagues were Eerste Klasse in Belgium and Eredivisie in the Netherlands.
When it was founded, the most important goal was to improve the sporting quality of women's football in both countries, given the difficulties of putting together their own first division in each country from 16 or more similarly high-performing teams. In the second season, however, several clubs struggled with severe financial losses, so that during the season in January 2013, FC Utrecht had to file for bankruptcy. In addition, Royal Antwerp withdrew from the league with the start of the 2014/2015 season. Before the 2015/2016 season, Club Bruges finally dissolved its first team and withdrew from the league. After several clubs struggled with financial problems, the Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbal Bond decided in January 2015 to leave the joint league with Belgium at the beginning of the 2015/2016 season. With the dissolution of the league, FC Twente Enschede remains the league's record champions with two championship titles. The former BeNeLeague teams from Belgium have been playing in the newly founded Super League since the dissolution and the Dutch clubs in the revived Eredivisie .

In the first season, Belgian ( BeNe League Red ) and Dutch ( BeNe League Orange ) teams were divided into two groups in return games ; after the winter break, the top four from each country played in BeNe League A , the rest in BeNe League B .
From the 2013/14 season onwards everyone will play in the same league. The first-placed team wins the BeNe Supercup , for which the national champions had already played in 2011 and 2012. The top-ranked Belgian and top-ranked Dutch teams are champions in their respective countries and thus both qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League .
