Heinz Jenni (born July 25, 1951 in Thun ; † October 8, 1992 in Zurich ) was a Swiss ice hockey player.

Career

He played for the Swiss national ice hockey team (including the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo and the 1972 Ice Hockey World Championship in Prague). He made a total of 44 international matches for the Swiss national team and scored 15 goals. With HC La Chaux-de-Fonds , he became Swiss champions in the 1971/72 season . The striker ( right wing ) spent most of his career with EV Zug in the 1st league, national league B and national league A. In his career, he also wore the jersey of EHC Thun , HC Friborg and HC Lugano .

In one of the most extraordinary transfers in Swiss ice hockey history, Jenni moved in 1973 as a 22-year-old national player from the then Swiss champions HC La Chaux-de-Fonds to EV Zug, which was then in the 1st division (third highest division) . The two national players Gérald Rigolet (goalkeeper) and Paul Probst (striker) moved to the same club in the preseason . These three players played a key role in ensuring that EV Zug, which was only founded in 1967, made it from the fourth highest division (2nd division) to the highest division (National League A) within less than 10 years. Heinz Jenni died as a result of a tragic accident at work when he wanted to help a colleague who had had an accident.

Goals

For EV Zug he scored a total of 260 goals in 245 official association games and is therefore the club's record scorer to this day:

  • 1973/74 season 45 goals (1st division / club-internal top scorer)
  • 1974/75 season 39 goals (National League B / club-internal top scorer)

particularities

  • He himself described as his most important goal in the service of EV Zug the 7: 6 winning goal against the Zurich Ice Skating Club (ZSC) on March 2, 1976 in the Zurich Hallenstadion . This goal, 22 seconds before the end of the game, meant that EV Zug was promoted to the National League A for the first time (top division in Switzerland at the time).
Statement by Heinz Jenni after the game against Zürcher SC on March 2, 1976 - translated: I still remember it well. 22 seconds before the end, Jorma [ Jorma Peltonen , Finnish ice hockey international] passed from behind the goal. I hit it and the puck was in the goal. That's when I knew we were in National League A. That wasn't the best goal of my career, but the most important one
  • On November 29, 1974, he also managed the fastest real hat trick in the EV Zug dress . Thanks to three goals between the 53rd and 56th minute of the game, he converted a 2-0 deficit to a 3-2 win against the Zürcher Schlittschuhclub (ZSC). This game took place in front of 6500 spectators in pouring rain on the then uncovered Zug artificial ice rink under the eyes of the then Swiss Federal Councilor Dr. Hans Hürlimann .
  • Jenni also achieved an extraordinary achievement on October 6, 1979: In a championship game of the National League B against EHC Olten (final score 8: 8) he scored five goals for EV Zug between the 29th and 44th minute of the game .
  • At EV Zug, Jenni formed a legendary and extremely successful attack formation together with Oskar Huber (left wing) and Paul Probst (center forward). He was characterized by excellent finishing qualities, strong nerves in front of the opposing goal and a strong and precise wrist shot. Jenni wore the number 12 on his back at EV Zug.
  • Jenni scored all four Swiss goals in an international friendly against Germany. The game was lost for Switzerland 4: 6.
