The Pellinger Berg tunnel is a 596 meter long motorway tunnel with two tubes in the municipality of Mettlach in the Merzig-Wadern district ( Saarland ). It is located on the section of the A8 between Perl- Borg and Merzig -Wellingen, only a few kilometers from the Luxembourg border.

The tunnel is also incorrectly called Pellinger Tunnel , especially in traffic reports. But there is no place called Pellingen in the immediate vicinity.

The tunnel, which was completed in 1997, mainly relieves the through traffic of Tünsdorf and especially the districts of Büschdorf and Eft-Hellendorf belonging to the municipality of Perl from heavy goods traffic in the direction of Luxembourg .

Before completion, the Pellinger Berg had to be bypassed by the above-mentioned villages in order to pass the Perl / Schengen (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ) border crossing on the Moselle after Perl . Today, the approval of the section of the A8 from Merzig-Wellingen to the Perl border crossing (transition to the Luxembourg A13 ) enables a continuous motorway connection to Luxembourg .

The tunnel was inaugurated in 1997 by Oskar Lafontaine in his role as Prime Minister . It complies with today's safety regulations.
