The Autoroute 13 , shortly A13 to the south of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg crosses, consists of two parts.
The southwestern, 20.631 km long section from the gyro Biff in Pétange near the Luxembourg-Belgian border to the junction Bettemburg is the A13 Collectrice du Sud called and passes through the former mining and ironworks area of Luxembourg, the Terres Rouges. This part of the highway was put into operation in 1994 and is very busy at times.
In the area of the cities of Differdange and Esch / Alzette , the A13 acts as a city bypass. Between the Lankelz motorway triangle and the Fötz motorway triangle , the A13 shares the lanes with the A4 .
A speed limit of 110 km / h applies from the Biff roundabout to the Fötz motorway triangle and in the opposite direction.
From the Bettembourg motorway junction to the Luxembourg-German border in Schengen / Perl (21.949 km), the A13 is known as the Liaison avec la Sarre or Saarautobunn . This part of the A13 was only put into operation in 2004, ten years after the Collectrice du Sud .
The direct connection of the Collectrice du Sud to the Saar motorway was not fully established for many years. The traffic was diverted through a bypass , which consisted of only two individual lanes and was parallel to the current final route. The reason for this was that the Luxembourg state did not yet have all the land to complete the motorway according to the planned route. The expropriation proceedings, delayed for a year due to formal errors, could only be concluded in 2013. Construction work began in autumn 2014 and should take two years. The new track area was opened in both directions on one lane each from September 5, 2016. The four-lane section was opened in December 2016.
The route is closely linked to the Luxembourg-French border. In Frisingen and Bad Mondorf , the lanes have been roofed over. Before the Markusberg, just before Schengen, the A13 runs through the 1575 m long Markusberg tunnel .
The tunnel is followed by the bridge over the Moselle between Schengen (L) and Perl (D), where the A13 merges into the German A8 motorway.
A curiosity of the Autobahn is the feeder in Frisingen . The connection in the direction of Schengen is not possible from the Frisingen distribution circle, although the feeder exists. The reason for this is that during the construction work on the motorway, the connection was built via private property without a permit. So far, the Luxembourg state has not yet been able to agree on a solution with the owner.
Before the section from Frisingen towards the German border was opened to the public in 2004, the motorway stunts in the film Autobahnraser were shown here with u. a. Alexandra Neldel filmed in one of the leading roles.
