The car Route 6 , shortly A 6 is the main road link between the, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Belgian province of Luxembourg with capital Arlon (dt. Arel). Based on this route, the A6 is also called the “Areler Autobunn”, or Areler Autobahn .

It is also signposted as E 25 - also known as the Route du Soleil - along its entire course .

Construction of the A6 began back in the 1970s; the first sections were put into operation in 1978, and it was finally completed in 1982.

First, the A 6 runs through the southwest of the Grand Duchy up to the level of the municipality of Strassen and then makes a southern semi-arc around the capital Luxembourg .

The A6 will end on Gaspericher Cross (Croix de Gasperich) where they have the A 3 towards France ( Thionville crosses) and seamlessly in the east to Germany current A1 passes. The southern half-ring, which is formed from the A 6 and A 1, is also known as the Boulevard Contournement and is shown on older street maps as  B1  .

Together with the A3, the A6 is the main transit route through the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg from Belgium / Netherlands towards France / Mediterranean coast.

Due to its importance as a transit route and commuter axis, it is chronically overloaded at almost all times of the day.

Trivia

At Croix de Gasperich, the 68-meter-high Cloche-d'Or water tower can be seen right next to the A 6 motorway, which is also known as the "new landmark" of Luxembourg (city).
