Until the conquest of Thurgau by the Confederates in 1460, the jurisdiction was under Habsburg- Austrian territorial sovereignty. Although Emperor Friedrich III. Issued Heinrich and Hans von Wängi with a deed of donation for the court in 1473 in gratitude for their services against the Confederates, they could not enforce their claims. From 1499 the bailiff appointed a lower bailiff who presided over the Tuttwilerberg court and headed the court consisting of 12 judges. From 1657 to 1743 it was mostly members of the Ruckstuhl von Hofen family who held the office of subordinate.
