Tuvia Hod-Hochwald
Tuvia Hod-Hochwald , also Rav Tuvia Hod , (born 1949 in Petach Tikwa , Israel ; died on April 3, 2019 in London ) was an Israeli-German rabbi and state rabbi from Rhineland-Palatinate and head of the Kashrut department in the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference .
Life
Tuvia Hod-Hochwald was the son of Abraham Hochwald , a rabbi in Munich, Hanover, Düsseldorf, Aachen and long-time regional rabbi of North Rhine-Westphalia. He grew up in Petach Tikwa , his surname Hod is the Hebrew version of the family name Hochwald . He first went through officer training with the Israeli army. He then studied at the Chewron yeshiva and completed his diploma as a rabbi. He also studied Jewish Studies . He worked as a teacher at high school and university. He served as an army rabbi for the Israeli infantry for 15 years and was a participant in the 1982 Lebanon War .
Hod came to Germany in the late 1980s and was a rabbi for the Jewish community in Bad Kissingen , but also officiated in Trier , Kaiserslautern and Speyer . He was also the state rabbi of Rhineland-Palatinate . He was a co-founder of the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference of Germany (ORD).
However, Tuvia Hod-Hochwald's main engagement was advising and certifying international companies that produced kosher food. As a kashrut expert and Mashgiach , Hod was the head of the kashrut department of the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference in Germany and the author of a kashrut list. Tuvia Hod-Hochwald spoke seven languages.
He was married to Sarah; the marriage resulted in two daughters living in Israel.
