Twisted Metal: Black is a combat-oriented racing game developed by Incognito Entertainment and published for the PlayStation 2 by Sony Computer Entertainment . The title represents the fifth part of the twisted metal series, which is particularly successful in North America . It was released in North America on June 18, 2001 and six months later in Europe. In 2012, the game was also released in a revised version by Sony for the PlayStation 3 .

Twisted Metal Black was received much better by the trade press than its predecessor and received a meta rating in GameRankings of 88.52%.

action

The basis for action is similar to that of its predecessor. Calypso , a millionaire, holds an annual competition called Twisted Metal. In this competition, several drivers fight against each other with armed vehicles until finally only one is left. This is declared the winner and receives from Calypso the fulfillment of any wish.

In contrast to the previous series parts, the backgrounds of the participating drivers are more in the foreground and are therefore more closely integrated into the main story.

Gameplay

General

Twisted Metal: Black , like its predecessor, combines elements of racing games with those of third-person shooters . The player controls a vehicle in a cordoned-off area, which is armed by default with machine guns with infinite ammunition. On the fighting area, he competes against up to eight also armed vehicles and tries to destroy them.

Race course

At the beginning of a race, the participating vehicles are placed at random starting positions on the map at a certain minimum distance from one another. Then the start takes place and the vehicles taking part in the race are allowed to drive through the area freely and hunt their opponents.

Since the machine guns cause relatively little damage, the drivers are dependent on additional weapons that are distributed along the route and can be picked up by any player. Additional weapons include a. Grenades, napalm and missiles. It is the same with repair kits that help remove these damage. Each vehicle has an individual weapon, the stock of which regenerates automatically over time.
