Two from the Vault is a double - live album of the band Grateful Dead .

history

The recordings of Two From the Vault are dated 24 August 1968 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles , California , the album itself was released on April 15 1991st For a long time it was unclear from which performance days the recordings were made, so August 23 and 24 were specified as the recording days before it was certain that the recordings were only from one day.

The songs were originally recorded with an 8-track recorder provided by their label, Warner Bros. Records, at the time. Warner Bros. also insisted that Grateful Dead resort to the label's sound engineers who, with hindsight, turned out to be unfamiliar with the recording technology with various microphones. As a result, the instruments drowned out each other and could not be heard in full quality.

The sound engineers Dan Healy and Don Pearson (occasionally Jeffrey Norman is also mentioned) , who act as music producers, revised this version with the help of a digital spectrum analysis (based on FTT ) by calculating recording times and delay , separating pauses and doing this with the parts of Phil Lesh as the main part compared so that they almost achieved a stereo sound .

The concerts took place a month after Anthem of the Sun was released, so some songs ( That's It for the Other One and New Potato Caboose ) were also used here. On the other hand, the band was already looking for songs for the next album Aoxomoxoa , for which the song Saint Stephen from this performance was later used as a studio version.

In 2007 a revised version of the album was released by Rhino Records and Grateful Dead Records for the limited box set The Vault Box , from three albums in the Vault series. Two From the Vault contains three bonus songs taken from the August 23, 1968 gig.
