history

The name Tynningö has been handed down from the time of the Vikings , although the island was significantly smaller at that time and only reached its present size and shape as the land uplifted . The island belonged temporarily to the city of Stockholm. It was given to the citizens of Stockholm as thanks for the fact that the citizens of Stockholm had opened the city gates in 1436 so that Engelbrecht could drive the Danes out. In the 16th century, during the reign of Erik XIV , there was a royal estate on the island. In the 17th century, Queen Kristina had a hunting lodge built on Tynningö. Ownership of the island changed frequently in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. In the 19th century there was a subdivision and management by several farms. In the 1870s the construction of summer houses began. Many other holiday homes were built especially from the 1940s.

On October 17, 1972, not far from the southern tip of Tynningös, a ship sailing from Risholmen to Skogsön sank. The wreck was not lifted.

economy

Tynningö has a village shop Tynningö Lanthandel and a restaurant. With the Hotel Ljungbergsgården there is also the possibility for meetings and seminars. The island also has a kindergarten. It is also worth mentioning the existence of a shipyard . With the Rudhesheim winery, Tynningö is one of the most northerly wineries on the island. A better known event on Tynningö is the Christmas market held at the end of November / beginning of December.

Sights and cultural monuments

Not far from the south bank of the island near Ekensberg is a glacier pot with a depth of 50 centimeters and a diameter of 35 centimeters. In the middle of the island there are remnants of historical streets, such as a 200-meter-long piece with an expansion width of 1.5 meters and a little to the east of this a 380-meter-long two-meter-wide piece. Near the north bank, across from the island of Getholmen, there is a historic dike four meters wide and 0.4 to 1.4 meters high. Several hundred meters southeast of this was a chapel, of which the foundation walls could still be found during excavations. At the southeastern end of the island, west of Tynningö klack, are the remains of the royal estate Tunninge kungsgård .
