Tzeltalia amphitricha is a plant type from the genus Tzeltalia in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Tzeltalia amphitricha is a 1 to 3 m high herbaceous plant . The stem can sometimes become slightly lignified, but is usually herbaceous. The plant is hairless or occasionally covered with multicellular trichomes , but these lose themselves with age. The leaves are usually entire or slightly curved, elliptical to ovoid or lanceolate. The larger leaves are usually 6 to 20 cm long and 3 to 8 cm wide. Towards the front they are pointed or long pointed, the base is pointed or pointed to blunt. The top and bottom are covered with short, multicellular trichomes. The leaf stalks are 1 to 4 cm long.

The inflorescences usually consist of two to five flowers , the flowers are rarely single, sometimes just a single flower of an inflorescence forms a ripe fruit. The flower stalks are 8 to 20 mm long and thickened towards the top. The calyx is 7 to 13.5 mm long and almost completely hairless or rarely covered with short, multicellular trichomes. The calyx tips are egg-shaped to lanceolate and 2.5 to 10 mm long. The crown is yellowish or greenish-yellow in color, the coronet has a diameter of 25 to 35 mm, the corolla lobes are egg-shaped or lanceolate and 9.5 to 15 mm long. There is a greenish-purple marking at the base of the corolla lobes, which is rarely missing. The corolla tube, the corolla throat and the base of the corolla lobes are densely hairy. The stamens are 3.5 to 5 mm long, the anthers are bluish to purple and 3 to 4 mm long.

The calyx is five-ribbed on the fruit, about 5.5 cm long and 3.5 cm wide. Its outside is hairless or almost hairless, veined like a reticulate and strongly puffed up. The stalks extend to about 17 mm on the fruit. The berry measures about 10 mm in diameter.

Occurrence

The species is common in Guatemala and southern Mexico . It occurs there in dense, damp or wet or mixed forests, occasionally it can also be found on slopes with white sand. The locations are at altitudes between 1300 and 2700 m.
