The Río de Janeiro metro station is a station on Line A of the Subterráneos de Buenos Aires and is part of the Plaza Miserere –Río de Janeiro section, which opened on April 1, 1914 as an extension. The metro station is located below Avenida Rivadavia between Calle Río de Janeiro / Calle Senillosa and Avenida La Plata. The station is named after the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro .

Like the other stations on the route, it received two side platforms. Dark gray was chosen as the color code for the station furniture, pillars and moldings. The walls are tiled in white / beige. The station was the terminus only a few weeks after the line was extended to Caballito subway station (now Primera Junta) on July 14, 1914.
