The Pasco Subway Station is a station of line A of Buenos Aires Underground and is part of the section Plaza de Mayo - Plaza Miserere , which opened the first of the network on 1 December 1913th The subway station is located below Avenida Rivadavia, between Calle Presidente José Evaristo Uriburu / Calle Pasco and Calle Junín / Calle Rincón. The station is named after the Battle of the Hill of Pasco (Batalla de Cerro de Pasco) in 1820 during the Peruvian War of Independence . The station has only one platform for trains going east, i.e. Plaza de Mayo .

history

The Pasco underground station was put into operation on December 1, 1913 , along with the section between Plaza de Mayo and Plaza Miserere . When it opened, the station had the usual side platforms for trains in both directions, although these were offset a few meters from one another due to the narrowing of Avenida Rivadavia. The walls were and are tiled in white, columns and moldings are painted green.

On August 6, 1953, the operating company closed the platform for trains going west, so that the trains now pass the edge of the platform that still exists. There is still speculation about the motives for the closure. One of the main reasons is the short distance to the nearest Alberti station, the platforms of which were also offset so that braking had to be initiated shortly after a subway train arrived. A bomb attack in front of the Casa de Pueblo, the previous meeting of the Socialist Party, fueled speculation that repairs were too expensive as the reason for the closure. It is believed that the platform is now used as a warehouse. The entrances were removed and locked with bars and can still be seen today. Due to the unsettled circumstances of the closure, numerous urban myths arose in this regard .

In 1997 the metro station was classified as a national historical monument (monumento histórico nacional) .
