U19 Champions Trophy

The U19 Champions Trophy is a football tournament for U-19 youth teams , which has been held annually at Easter since 1963 by BV 04 Düsseldorf and held in the stadium on Roßstrasse in the Golzheim district of Düsseldorf .

history

Originally the tournament ran under the name "Easter tournament" and primarily served the international understanding. After being renamed "Nokia Debitel Cup", the tournament was professionalized. In the meantime, the event has become so well established that the organizers place restrictive requirements when selecting the field of participants. With a few exceptions, only those clubs are invited whose professional teams have qualified for the Europa League or Champions League in the current season.

Attendees

The list of participants includes the leading European football clubs. International teams such as FC Barcelona , Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC and Juventus Turin have been on the list of participants so far. But national top clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Fortuna Düsseldorf have already taken part in this tournament. The participants also included the U19 national teams of the USSR, Poland, CSSR, Israel, Greece, Turkey, South Africa, Cameroon and Morocco.

The 2016 tournament was won for the third time in a row by FC Red Bull Salzburg by beating Besiktas Istanbul 1-0 in the final.

Tournament mode

The ten participating teams will be divided into two groups, which will be played from Thursday to Sunday in the "everyone against everyone" mode. The two best teams in each group qualify for the semi-finals on Monday morning, the games for 5th and 3rd place and the final take place on Monday afternoon. If games end in a draw on Monday after regular playing time of 2 × 25 minutes , there will be a penalty shoot-out .
