The container ships of UASC A19 class , initially, UASC A18 class , the Kuwait based United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), belong to the group of ULCS (Ultra Large Container Ship).

history

The series was built from 2014 to the beginning of 2016 by the South Korean shipyards Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) and comprises six units. All ships of the class are used in liner services between Europe and East Asia. In December 2015, the Al Muraykh left Port Klang with the highest number of containers transported by a ship of 18,601 TEU. After a two-week voyage, the ship docked on the Thames at the London Gateway Terminal on January 1, 2016.

As a result of the merger of UASC with Hapag-Lloyd , the ships came to Hapag-Lloyd in 2017.

technology

In terms of shipbuilding, the A19 ships classified by DNV GL are designed like the majority of the ULCS series that are already in operation. The deckhouse is located approximately at the end of the forward third of the ship, which enables an improved line of sight and thus a higher forward deck loading, while the chimney and machinery are located in the rear third. The bunker tanks are arranged below the superstructure; they meet the relevant MARPOL regulations. The holds of the ships are closed with pontoon hatch covers. The maximum container capacity is given as 18,800 TEU. There are also connections for integral refrigerated containers . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .

The ships are powered by a ten-cylinder two - stroke diesel engine of the type MAN B&W 10S90ME-C10.2, built under license by Hyundai , which acts on a single fixed-pitch propeller . The main engines are designed to run on LNG as fuel. The ships should meet the IMO's Energy Efficiency Design Index .
