UC Browser is a web browser that was first released in August 2004. It was originally a J2ME application, but it is also available for Android , iOS , Windows Phone (formerly Windows Mobile ) , Symbian , Java and various other operating systems. In March 2014, the application reached over 500 million users worldwide, with the majority of users from the People's Republic of China and India .

The browser is developed by UCWeb Inc, a subsidiary of the Alibaba Group .

The internet browser uses cloud acceleration and data compression technologies . The servers function as proxies that compress the data before sending it . This causes web content to load faster, but it increases latency . The browser can be adapted to different network environments and supports HTML5 . It also has a cloud synchronization function. Since August 2014, UC Browser has integrated an ad blocker .

System requirements

Required Android version 4.0 or higher, or version 7.0 or newer for iOS.

Versions

The browser is particularly popular with Android users; of 500 million active users in the first quarter of 2014, 300 million are using Google's Android operating system.

Android

On Android there are various versions for the respective device types. On the one hand, there is the standard version called the “UC Browser”. This works on most smartphones and tablets. There is also a special tablet version called “UC Browser HD” which is adapted for tablets so that tablet-optimized versions of websites are automatically called up; this version also includes a more user-friendly UI for tablets. The "UC Browser Mini" version was originally developed for older smartphones and cellular networks in order to save cellular costs. The "UC Browser for x86 Phones" version is intended for smartphones and tablets that have an Intel x86 processor.

iOS

Under Apple's iOS there is a version for the iPod touch , the iPhone and the iPad .

Windows

For Windows , UC Browser was the first to be developed for the mobile operating system Windows Mobile (now Windows Phone ). In the Microsoft Store , there is that browser for Windows 10 version 10586.0 or higher, Xbox One, (architecture: x64, x86) and Surface Pro 2 or later.
