UN convention
The UN Convention is a term used for binding international agreements between the member states of the United Nations . After the adoption of a corresponding draft at a General Assembly of the United Nations (UN General Assembly), they become binding under international law for the contracting states after they have been signed by the country representatives and ratified by the relevant national bodies (in Germany : Bundestag ) .
Their implementation is monitored and monitored by the relevant UN commissions or committees (see subsidiary bodies of the United Nations ). The respective contracting states have to report on the status and progress of the implementation on site at regular intervals. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) create “ shadow reports” , which are also included in the respective assessment.
The UN Convention should not be confused with a UN conference on certain topics, such as the UN Conference on Disarmament ( UNCD ).
