The USB Bochum GmbH is a municipal company of waste and waste management in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Bochum . It emerged in 1995 as Umweltservice Bochum GmbH from the municipal own operation ASB , which in turn emerged from the municipal fleet operations SFB .
The company was restructured on July 1, 2013. USB Bochum GmbH took over the municipal tasks. This particularly includes waste disposal and city cleaning in accordance with the respective statutes. The USB Service GmbH takes care of the private business. Areas of responsibility are the container service and the "EKOCityCenter" processing center for commercial and bulky waste.
The USB subsidiary RAU GmbH has introduced a combined recycling bin in Bochum. Since January 1, 2011, citizens have been able to collect other plastic and metal objects in addition to the previous lightweight packaging in the recycling bin.
USB Service GmbH and USB Bochum GmbH are each 100% subsidiaries of Stadtwerke Bochum Holding GmbH . 5% of this holding is owned directly by the City of Bochum and 95% by the Holding for Supply and Transport Bochum GmbH. The Holding for Supply and Transport Bochum GmbH in turn belongs to 1% directly to the city of Bochum and to 99% to the group ewmr Energie- und Wasserversorgung Mittleres Ruhrgebiet GmbH , which belongs to the cities of Bochum, Herne and Witten .
The main tasks of the USB consist of:
- Household waste collection
- Waste paper collection
- Waste glass collection
- Operation of seven recycling centers
- Operation of a mechanical processing plant (EKOCity-Center)
- City cleaning
- Winter service
At the Kornharpen central garbage dump , one of the few central garbage dumps in Germany, the Kornharpen landfill gas cogeneration plant is operated together with the Bochum municipal utility .
Waste is recycled and disposed of by the EKOCity association , which includes USB, AWG Wuppertal , AGR , the cities of Bochum, Wuppertal , Herne, Remscheid , the Recklinghausen district and the Ennepe-Ruhr district .
