The USNS Mercy (T-AH-19) is a hospital ship of the US Navy . It is the third ship to be named Mercy . She is commissioned as the United States Naval Ship (USNS).

history

The Mercy was built in 1976 as an oil tanker Worth at the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company in San Diego . The conversion to a hospital ship began in July 1984 at the shipyard. The commissioning took place on November 8, 1986.

The first operation was in support of Operation Desert Shield . The mission lasted from August 15, 1990 to March 16, 1991. On April 23, she arrived in Oakland . The home port is San Diego in the US state California . Also in the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami that had Mercy in use.

2020 Los Angeles COVID-19 Pandemic

In March 2020, Mercy served to support the care of non- COVID-19 patients in Los Angeles .

Furnishing

The medical equipment includes a radiology department , eleven treatment rooms, a blood bank , medical laboratories and 15 hospital wards with 80 intensive care beds , workshops for the production of prostheses and for the repair of medical devices.
