Agostinho André Mendes de Carvalho , pseudonym Uanhenga Xitu , (born August 29, 1924 in Colomboloca, Catete , † February 13, 2014 in Luanda ) was an Angolan writer and diplomat .

Life

His writer's name is Uanhenga Xitu ( Kimbundu ). Agostinho André Mendes de Carvalho trained as a nurse. He campaigned for the independence of the overseas province of Angola. He was arrested by the Polícia Internacional e de Defesa do Estado at Luanda Airport and sentenced to twelve years in prison by a military tribunal. From 1962 to 1970 he was interned in Campo do Tarrafal .

He was a member of the Central Committee of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola . From November 14, 1975 to 1982 he was Minister of Health ( Secretário da Saúde e Assuntos Sociais ). From 1982 to 1984 he was Comissário provincial commissioner for the province of Luanda . From January 5, 1985 to October 2, 1990, he was his country's ambassador in Berlin .
