politics

Knapp changed sides several times; he was initially involved in the SDS in West Berlin, where he became SDS chairman. He headed the SDS until the organization dissolved itself in 1970. In 1969, Knapp became a pioneer and member of the Red Cell Movement. As a result, numerous red cells formed at the FU and TU Berlin , such as the Red Cell German Studies, the RotZePs (psychology) or RotZPhysik (physics). They were assigned to the student party initiative PL / LI (Proletarian Left / Party Initiative) and thus were direct opponents of the KSV and its KPD / AO until about 1975 , which only dissolved in 1980.

Udo Knapp was a member of the ÖTV and in the 1980s he was an assistant to the Green Party for its MPs Hans-Christian Ströbele , Waltraud Schoppe and for the leaders of the "Greens" in the Bundestag. When his last deputy Otto Schily joined the party , Knapp switched to the SPD in the 1990s.

From 1994 he was deputy district administrator of the island of Rügen for the SPD until he was voted out of office in 1996. Then he worked for the construction east in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing .
