Marit Sauramo (born March 12, 1954 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish opera and concert singer ( soprano ).

Life

Sauramo's mother is from Sweden . Her father was of Finnish- Norwegian descent. Marit Sauramo studied at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Kammersängerin Hilde Rössel-Majdan , at the Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg with Naan Pöld and privately with the opera singer Ingrid Bjoner in Oslo .

She made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in 1979 as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser . At the beginning of her career, Sauramo sang mainly the lyric-dramatic and the dramatic soprano subject ; Later in her career she also added specialist roles for mezzo-soprano and alto to her repertoire. She sang roles like Leonore in Fidelio , the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos , Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier , Senta in The Flying Dutchman , Kundry in Parsifal , Elisabeth / Venus in Tannhauser . Later, after a change of subject, roles such as Erda in Das Rheingold and Siegfried , Fricka in Der Ring des Nibelungen , 1st Norne in Götterdämmerung and 3rd Lady in The Magic Flute became her stage roles.

She worked with conductors like Gerd Albrecht , Alberto Erede , Georg Fischer , Hans Graf , Michael Halász , Will Humburg , Marek Janowski , Armin Jordan , Siegfried Köhler , Jiri Kout , Sir John Pritchard , Nello Santi , Peter Schneider , Leif Segerstam , Stefan Soltesz , Horst Stein , Otmar Suitner , Jeffrey Tate , Neil Varon , Hiroshi Wakasugi and Hans Wallat .

In 1997, Marit Sauramo was paralyzed in an accident and could no longer sing. It didn't appear again until 2006. In 2014 she finally ended her stage career.

In addition to her stage career, she taught singing and part studies both privately and in master classes. Marit Sauramo worked as a singing teacher for the SMPV (CH) and the European Voice Teachers Association Switzerland (EVTA). From 2010 to 2012 she was Artistic Director of the GomsOpera in Wallis (CH) .
