Udo Wilhelm Bogislav von Bonin (born June 6, 1826 in Stresow , † September 28, 1902 in Detmold ) was a Prussian major general and most recently department head of the service and hospital system in the war ministry.

Life

His parents were the government councilor Julius Wilhelm Ernst von Bonin (* May 17, 1801; † March 30, 1842) and his wife Auguste, nee Piper (* October 18, 1801; † July 16, 1845).

Career

He attended high schools in Halberstadt and Stargard in Pomerania. On January 1, 1843, he went to the Guard Pioneer Department as a one-year volunteer . He joined the 2nd pioneer division on September 22nd, 1843. From October 15, 1843 to July 9, 1846 he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . In this time was on May 22, 1844 to Portepeefähnrich and on September 1, 1845 Seconde Lieutenant in the 1st Engineer inspection aggregated and offset department pioneered the first on 2 July. 1846 From April 11, 1848 to May 2, and from June 15 to September 13, 1848 for the reinforcement of the Weichselmünde and Neufahrwasser. There he was promoted to Adjutant of the 5th Fortress Inspectorate on September 21, 1853 and on October 1, 1853 to Premier-Lieutenant. He was posted to Paris on April 1, 1854 to learn French there. After his return he came on March 29, 1856 as an adjutant in the 2nd engineering inspection and was appointed captain on June 27, 1857. On March 18, 1858, he was posted to the engineering department of the War Ministry and transferred to the Ministry on September 26, 1858. On March 17, 1863, he was promoted to major. He took part in the German-Danish War . He was then used again in the field and on June 11, 1864 was transferred as a commander to the Pioneer Battalion No. 2. From July 29th to August 26th, 1864 he came in command of the 9th Engineer Company in Jutland . In 1866 he fought in the German War and took part in the battles near Podtost and Gitschin , as well as in the battle of Königgrätz . For this he received the Crown Order 4th Class with Swords on September 29, 1866 and on December 31, 1866, the promotion to lieutenant colonel with patent on October 30, 1866. On October 17, 1867 he then left the field as an engineer officer to Danzig. But on December 3, 1867, he was entrusted with the management of the business as head of the service department in the War Ministry, on July 1, 1868 he was confirmed as head of the service and hospital system. On January 23, 1870, he received the Order of the Crown, 3rd Class with Swords, and on July 16, 1870, he was promoted to colonel. During the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War he came to the Torgau Fortress as a commandant on August 10, 1879, and returned to the peace relationship on May 9, 1871. On March 30, 1873, he received the rank and fees of brigade commander. He was also appointed President of the Engineering Committee on April 13, 1873. He was promoted to major general on May 2, 1874 and then put up for retirement on February 12, 1876 and awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves . He died on September 28, 1902 in Detmold.

Bonin married Marie Klara Eickhoff on October 22, 1866 in Stettin (* February 28, 1846 - † September 25, 1921). The couple had several children:
