Ulf Mark Schneider (born September 9, 1965 in Neuwied ) is a German business manager . He has been the CEO of Nestlé since 2017 .

Life

Schneider attended the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium in Neuwied , where he skipped the tenth grade. After graduating from high school, he studied and received his doctorate in economics at the University of St. Gallen . He also holds an MBA ( Master of Business Administration ) from Harvard Business School . In 1989 Schneider joined the Duisburg conglomerate Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH , where he held various leading positions until 2001, most recently as Group Finance Director at the British pharmaceutical wholesaler and retailer Gehe UK plc (now McKesson Europe ). On November 1, 2001, Schneider moved to the Management Board of Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. KGaA, the world's leading provider of dialysis products and services, where he was responsible for finance. From May 28, 2003 to June 30, 2016, he was CEO of the parent company Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA . During his tenure, the company's sales have quadrupled, the number of employees more than tripled and profits more than twelve-fold. In addition, Fresenius undertook several major strategic acquisitions under his leadership: in 2005 the takeover of the private hospital chain HELIOS Kliniken ; 2006 the takeover of the US dialysis provider Renal Care Group; 2008 acquisition of the US pharmaceutical company APP Pharmaceuticals; 2011 acquisition of Liberty Dialysis, another major dialysis provider in the US; and in 2014 the takeover of 41 clinics from Rhön Klinikum AG , making HELIOS the largest private hospital operator in Germany.

In December 2012, Handelsblatt named Schneider “Manager of the Year 2012” and in November 2013 Manager Magazin “Manager of the Year 2013”.

On September 1, 2016, he moved to the Board of Directors of Nestlé . On January 1, 2017, Schneider became CEO of Nestlé. He is only the second external candidate (next to financial expert Louis Dapples ) to be made CEO of Nestlé.

Schneider was Chairman of the European Advisory Board of Harvard Business School until 2016 and a member of the Board of Directors of the US chemical company DuPont from 2014 to 2017 .
