Ulla Saar

Ulla Saar (born January 4, 1975 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian illustrator, graphic artist and product and interior designer.

life and work

Ulla Saar finished school in Tallinn in 1991. From 1991 to 1994 she studied architectural engineering at the Tallinn Technical University (Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool) , then from 1997 to 2001 product design at the Estonian Art Academy . In 2000/2001 she continued her education at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki , Finland . Since 1993 Ulla Saar has been employed as a designer in the architectural office Alver Architects in Tallinn, founded by Andres Alver .

Ulla Saar has also designed numerous illustrations for magazines, postcards, record covers and calendars and has also made music videos. Since 2013 she has made a name for herself in Estonia and beyond as an illustrator for children's books.

Ulla Saars work has been awarded numerous prizes. Her children's book Lift with a text by Kätlin Vainola was included in the international selection list The White Ravens of the International Youth Library in Munich in 2014. She was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize 2018.
