Ulli Meyer

Ulli Christian Meyer (born October 13, 1973 ) is a German CDU politician and former State Secretary for Finance in the Saarland Ministry of Finance and Europe. In the runoff election of the mayor of the Mittelstadt St. Ingbert on June 9, 2019, Meyer was able to prevail against incumbent Hans Wagner . He took office on October 24, 2019.

Life

After graduating from the Albertus Magnus High School in St. Ingbert in 1993, Meyer studied at the University of Saarland law and Uppsala University , graduating in 1999 with the first legal state examination. In 2001 he received his doctorate from Saarland University with “magna cum laude” as a Dr. jur. The topic of his dissertation was: "The New Control Model - Compatibility with the Principle of Democracy and Admissibility under Local Constitutional Law". In June 2003, the second state examination followed after the legal clerkship. Saarland University appointed him honorary professor in 2017 after many years of teaching.

Meyer is an active CDU member and was mayor in St. Ingbert-Mitte until his election as mayor in 2019. On September 18, 2005 Meyer ran as a direct candidate in the federal constituency of Homburg (constituency 299) for the German Bundestag, but was defeated by Astrid Klug of the SPD.

After working as a consultant for fundamental questions of state politics in 2003, Meyer became office manager of the then Prime Minister Peter Müller in 2004 . In 2006 Ulli Meyer became Head of Department A “Organization, Personnel, Budget” in the Saarland State Chancellery in Saarbrücken . After the state elections in 2017, he was appointed State Secretary for Finance in the Saarland Ministry of Finance and Europe. He is also Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Saarland state government. In 2019 he was elected Lord Mayor of St. Ingbert.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung appointed him to its council for local politics (KoPo) in 2018.

Meyer is married and has three children. He lives in St. Ingbert.
