The Ulmbach reservoir is a reservoir in the Lahn-Dill district in Hesse , which is dammed by the Ulmbachtalsperre (also known as Ulmtalsperre or flood retention basin Ulmbach ).
It is located in the Beilstein district of the municipality of Greifenstein , near Leun and Wetzlar and 12 km southwest of Herborn . It serves the flood protection of the Lahn and operated by Ulmbachverband. In addition, the reservoir is a recreational area surrounded by meadows . The Ulmbach is dammed . The lake is 570 meters long and 90-180 meters wide, the water surface is 6.7 hectares. The dam holds 740,000 cubic meters of water, or - depending on the water level - up to 820,000 m³.

The barrier structure is an earth embankment dam . The Ulmbachtalsperre was modernized in 2006. The reservoir was completely drained for this purpose. The dam was renovated in 2012.

The Ulmbachtalsperre recreational area has:
- Camping site with permanent camps / sanitary facilities
- Beach with sunbathing lawn ( DLRG supervision on weekends)
- Rowing and bathing boats allowed
- Diving, fishing
- Kiosk / restaurant
- Parking spaces
- Children's playground
- Bird sanctuary
The bank is only flat in the bathing area, otherwise it is steep and overgrown.
