Ulrich Battis

Ulrich Battis (born May 16, 1944 in Bergzabern ) is a German legal scholar .

Life

Ulrich Battis studied law and administrative sciences at the universities of Münster , Berlin , Tübingen and the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer . In 1969 he received his doctorate in Münster, followed by his habilitation in 1974 at the Free University of Berlin.

In 1976 Battis became a professor at the University of Hamburg , in 1979 he became a full professor at the Distance University in Hagen , of which he was rector from 1984 to 1993. From 1993 until his retirement in 2009 he was a university professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Since 1994 he has been director of the Institute for German and International Building Law at Humboldt University and since 1996 he has been director of the Institute for Legal Law at Humboldt University. He is also a member of the board of the Institute for Notary Law . In 2001 an honorary doctorate was awarded by the Law Faculty of the Pantion University of Athens . Battis is a member of the board of trustees of the Hagen Dimitris Tsatsos Institute for European Constitutional Studies .

From 2009 to 2017 Ulrich Battis was Of Counsel at the commercial law firm Gleiss Lutz . On September 1, 2017, he joined the corporate law firm GSK Stockmann as of counsel .

Battis' research focuses on European spatial development , building , planning and environmental law , science law, public service law and administrative reform , in particular organization and personnel.

The following Battis students have habilitated so far: Christoph Gusy , Klaus Joachim Grigoleit , Jens Kersten and Peter Bultmann .

In September 2019 he was one of about 100 constitutional law teachers who, with the open appeal for the right to vote, Downsized the Bundestag! turned to the German Bundestag .
