Ulrich Marcus

Ulrich Marcus (born March 1958 ) is a German epidemiologist and doctor .

Life

After studying human medicine with a state examination and doctorate at the Free University in Berlin , Marcus began researching HIV and AIDS in 1984 . The German AIDS Foundation recognized his work as head of the communication, press and public relations department of the Robert Koch Institute from 1998 to 1999 with the media prize . Marcus later switched to the specialist area for HIV / AIDS and other sexually or blood-borne infections in which he was deputy head of department for several years and currently works as a research assistant.

research

Marcus is the scientific coordinator of the “German-Austrian guidelines for post-exposure prophylaxis of HIV infection”. In this consensus-based medical guideline , the transmission risks of HIV in various risk situations are presented and, if necessary, post-exposure drug options are summarized.

As part of an increased occurrence of meningococcal infections in Berlin in 2013 among young men who have sex with men (MSM), Marcus also contributed to disseminating knowledge about the disease, its symptoms and prevention as an interviewee in print and online media.
