Ulrich Sarcinelli (born October 10, 1946 in Deidesheim ) is a German political scientist . Until his retirement in 2013, he was Vice President and Professor at the University of Koblenz-Landau .

Life

Sarcinelli first completed a teaching degree and worked from 1971 to 1975 in the school service of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. He then worked from 1975 to 1980 as a research assistant at the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Education (EWH), Koblenz department, and studied political science, law, sociology and pedagogy at the University of Mainz at the same time as his work in Koblenz . After graduating with a Magister Artium (MA) in 1977, he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. From 1980 to 1984 he was a university assistant at the chair of party researcher Heino Haack. With him he completed his habilitation in 1984 at the University of Koblenz-Landau, Campus Koblenz on "Symbolic Politics". From 1985 to 1988 he was a senior academic councilor at his chair .

From 1988 to 1995, Sarcinelli accepted a professorship for political science at the University of Education in Kiel, which was finally integrated into the University of Kiel . He turned down calls for C4 professorships at the University of Potsdam and the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education. In the winter semester 1995/96 he took over a full professorship for political science at the University of Koblenz-Landau, Campus Landau.

In 2002, Sarcinelli was on leave to hold a visiting professorship at the Institute for Mass Communication and Media Research (IPMZ) at the University of Zurich . In 2009 he was elected Vice President of the University of Koblenz-Landau with responsibility for research. He held the office until the end of his university service in 2013. He headed the Frank Loeb Institute in Landau at the university from its founding until 2013.

Since the end of 2013, Sarcinelli has been chairman of the sponsoring association of the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate eV and played a key role in setting up the " Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate - Academy for Crisis Prevention and Civil Conflict Management" as a special scientific institution at the University of Koblenz-Landau.

Sarcinelli was chairman of the board of trustees of the Evangelical Academy of the Palatinate from 2003 to 2016 and is a member of the regional synod of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate . He is a member of the selection committee for scholarships of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom .

Awards

In 2010, Sarcinelli received the “ Golden Line ” award from the Palatinate District Association of the German Association of Journalists. In 2013 he was awarded the plaque of honor of the city of Landau in recognition of his scientific and social commitment and in 2016 the Order of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate was awarded. In 2019 he received the Bernhard Sutor Prize for special services to political education in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Research priorities

Sarcinelli's research interests are political mediation and political communication, the political system of Germany, parties and political culture, state politics as well as constitutional and democratic theory.
