Ulrich Schröder (physicist)

Ulrich Schröder (born May 14, 1935 in Schwerte ; † December 8, 2010 in Böblingen ) was a German theoretical physicist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school, Ulrich Schöder studied physics at the University of Marburg , where he graduated with Siegfried Flügge on a subject in theoretical particle physics . He then followed Flügge to the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and became its scientific assistant after completing his doctorate.

Schröder then changed his research area and in 1967 became a theoretical solid-state physicist assistant at the University of Frankfurt am Main , where he attracted international attention in lattice dynamics with a new model he had investigated, the so-called "breathing shell model". With this model, the dynamics of the oxygen ions in particular could be recorded much better than before.

This was followed by a two-year research stay at New York University with Joseph L. Birman . Schröder then completed his habilitation in 1969 at the Technical University of Munich .

From 1969 until his retirement in 2001 he was professor for theoretical physics at the University of Regensburg . At his chair the main focus was on the lattice dynamics of ion crystals , interface effects and the lattice dynamics of high-temperature superconductors .
