Ulrich Venzlaff

Ulrich Venzlaff (born December 8, 1921 in Luckenwalde ; † September 6, 2013 ) was a German psychiatrist .

Career

After his habilitation, Venzlaff was a private lecturer from 1956 and an adjunct professor at the University of Göttingen from 1962 . From 1965 he stayed as a visiting professor in the United States and taught at the State University of New York , Columbia University , Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Michigan University . From 1969 to 1986 he was Medical Director of the Lower Saxony State Hospital in Göttingen .

The focus of his work was the improvement of psychiatric care, the development of forensic psychiatry from a scientific and therapeutic point of view, and the treatment of traumatized people from the time of National Socialism . His 1964 publication Mental disorders resulting from racial persecution outside of concentration camps dealt with this complex of topics .

He has been a corresponding member of the Australian Academy of Forensic Sciences since 1971 .
