Wickert's relationship with his Catholic colleague from Tübingen, Joseph Ratzinger [Pope Benedict XVI.]: Wickert, Ulrich, life out of love. Therese of Lisieux. Collected Essays, 1997, Vallendar-Schoenstatt. P. 4: His Eminence Professor Dr. Dedicated to Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger in gratitude and admiration for the 70 year old. - P. 12f [Preface, conclusion]: I am heartily grateful that your Eminence, Professor Dr. Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, gave me permission to dedicate these experiments to him on the occasion of his 70th birthday on April 16, 1997. As a professor at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen in the 1960s, I was fortunate to see Joseph Ratzinger as an open-minded, profound colleague who pays understanding to other denominations. The common resistance against the enemies of the Christian faith in the student revolt of that time brought us closer together. In the decades that have passed since then, whenever I thought of the Catholic Church with love, Joseph Ratzinger's image has always come before my eyes. That I am dedicating to His Eminence not a work from my narrower patristic subject area, but this Theresiana, is at the same time a commitment to my own, although still "evangelical" roots in Catholicism. Because it was not by chance that I came across St. Theresa of the Child Jesus and the Most Holy Face. When I found myself in a hopeless situation for a while during my years in Tübingen, Therese's writings gave me wonderful help. It happened with what I later put on the formula: Therese makes [13] people small, and she brings them home. As a Protestant Christian, I was able to have this healing experience. This is why my hope for unity among Christians in love and truth was revived: And that also resonates when I combine this publication with both grateful and heartfelt congratulations and blessings for his Eminence. Berlin, June 11, 1997, the anniversary of Therese's self-sacrifice to the merciful love Ulrich Wickert
