Ulrich Wilken (born August 19, 1958 in Oberhausen ) is a Hessian politician ( Die Linke ) and deputy president of the Hessian state parliament .

education and profession

Ulrich Wilken studied after graduating from high school in 1978 in Essen and the civil service in the Catholic Youth Office Essen sociology, political science, pedagogy and philosophy at the universities of Frankfurt and Marburg. In 1986 he obtained a diploma in sociology, in 1993 he received his doctorate. phil. in education at the University of Marburg . His dissertation dealt with the topic of action- oriented educational work .

Between 1987 and 1998, Wilken worked as a research assistant for a number of institutions on ergonomic issues. Since November 1998 he has been working as a freelancer.

politics

Ulrich Wilken was a founding member of the left-wing small party Democratic Socialists (DS) and belonged to this group until it was dissolved in 1990. Between 1985 and 1987 he was General Secretary of the German Section of Christians for Socialism . In 2000 he joined the PDS and was district chairman in Frankfurt am Main from 2001 to 2003 . Since 2003 he was state chairman of the PDS, later of the successor party Die Linke . In the state elections in Hesse in 2008 , he was elected to the state parliament via the state list.

In the state elections in Hesse in 2013 he joined the constituency Frankfurt V on. Here he was defeated by Bettina Wiesmann . However, he succeeded in re-entering the state parliament via a list of the party.

Wilkens was the organizer of the Blockupy protests against the new building of the European Central Bank on March 18, 2015. After these protests led to violent riots with around 150 injured police officers, Wilkens said that he was "horrified" but he also uttered a "big one." Understanding of anger and indignation ”. On April 21, 2015, the council of elders of the state parliament suggested that he resign as Vice-President of the Hessian state parliament, as he no longer had the confidence required to exercise his office in a large number of the MPs, which he refused.
