Ulrich Zehfuß (born January 15, 1973 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German singer, songwriter and author.

Life and artistic career

Ulrich Zehfuß began his stage career at the age of 17 with the founding of his band BUNT on November 21, 1990. Almost only his own songs were played, initially only with dialect texts . BUNT made acoustically influenced singer-songwriter folk, the line-up consisted of drums, bass, keyboard and accordion, acoustic guitar, flute and violin, occasionally also mandolin or bouzouki, with some personnel changes. In the following years, BUNT was awarded three times by the jury of the national competition for the young music scene in Berlin. Zehfuß himself has been a member of the jury since 1994 and today has a decisive influence on the meeting with his songwriting seminars. In 2015, together with the Hamburg director Alexander Riemenschneider, he led the master class “Close-up” for the first time for songwriters at the Berlin Festival , using the “Songhenge” concept they had developed.

In 1991 Zehfuß became a student of SAGO, Christof Stählin's poet school , with whom he is still associated today.

In the mid to late 1990s, Ulrich Zehfuß regularly had airplays and television appearances with BUNT and was one of the best-known musicians in the southwest with his formation. This was followed by guest appearances in Poland, Italy and several tours through France.

At the same time, Zehfuß completed training as a musical performer at the private MAD Academy in Mannheim . In 1995 Zehfuß sang the musical "Human Pacific" in Mannheim's Rosengarten alongside Xavier Naidoo . From 1999 to 2001 Zehfuß wrote a number of prose pieces and audio thrillers for Südwestrundfunk , scripts and numerous poems. The idea for the children's novel “Aiji, the little samurai” was born, which he finished ten years later with actor and narrator Jo Jung wrote. The novel was published by Patmos-Verlag in 2012 .

In 1999 the label VIP-Productions of the music manager Jörg Hagenbuch signed Ulrich Zehfuß. In addition to a new recording, the album “You just belong” was released in 2004. This album was produced by Ritchie Barton and Uwe Hassbecker , the creative core of the band SILLY .

The band BUNT split up in 2006. Until 2010, Zehfuß devoted himself primarily to songwriting. Together with Alexander Riemenschneider, he developed his own songwriting methodology and also wrote for other artists. The first solo appearances followed in 2009, and in 2014 concrete plans began for the solo album “Dünnes Eis”, which was released in 2016 on the Mannheim label Sevenarts-Music.

Press reviews on "Thin Ice"

"Zehfuß recorded eleven tracks together with his fellow musicians (Matthias TC Debus, Benjamin Scheufler, Sebastian Henzl, Marco Trochelmann and Mathias Kiefer), on which he framed small personal stories, observations and reflections - again and again touching, always more concise Lacony. [...] A fine record which, on top of that, reveals new facets from time to time when you listen to it repeatedly and gains in attraction. "

- Mannheimer Morgen, February 17, 2016

“A perfect album. The lyrics full of understanding. The graceful interpretations by Ulrich Zehfuss are exemplary as are his outstanding musical arrangements. 'Thin ice' is a veritable cornucopia of new German-language songs. "

- Jochen Arlt, juror “Prize of the German Record Critics”

"Almost ten years after the last Bunt performance, the songwriter recorded a wonderful solo album with 'Dünnes Eis', which shows in each of the eleven tracks how intensely and persistently he worked on it."

- Matthias Mühleisen, Mannheimer Morgen, March 12, 2016
