Umberto Cagni (born February 24, 1863 in Asti , † April 22, 1932 in Genoa ) was an Italian explorer and admiral .

Umberto Cagni was the son of a Piedmontese general . At the age of 14 he first entered the Naval School in Naples , then switched to the Naval School in Genoa , which he graduated from in 1881 as a lieutenant at sea . From 1882 to 1885 he was allowed to take part in a circumnavigation of the world on the warship Vettor Pisani . From 1894 to 1897 he accompanied Luigi Amadeo of Savoy on the Cristoforo Colombo on another circumnavigation of the world. In 1897 they climbed Mount St. Elias on the border between Alaska and the Yukon Territory in Canada . In 1899 he took part in the Luigi Amadeos expedition with the Stella Polare to Franz-Joseph-Land .
