Umkhaya-Lo is an album by the South African group Bayete that was released in 1995.

background

Jabu Khanyile became a member of Bayete in 1984, at that time already a renowned afro-jazz-rock-fusion band. In the early 1990s, the group split and only the singer and keyboardist remained from the original formation. In the mid-1990s, the group celebrated initial success with their first album. Jabu Khanyile and Bayete combined West and South African styles of music with elements of jazz and contemporary musical ideas on Umkhaya-Lo, the group's second album. Jabu Khanyile worked on the album for about half a year with his production team Thapelo Kgomo and Ian Osrin.

reception

The Billboard magazine wrote in its issue of April 6, 1996:

"Bayete is South Africa's hottest world-music prospect ... His debut album," Malewe ", went gold here and his new album (" Umkhaya-Lo ") ... is expected to do even better."

"Bayete is South Africa's hottest world music candidate ... Her debut album," Malewe ", achieved gold status here and her new album (" Umkhaya-Lo ") ... is expected to achieve even more."
